New Poll Shows Waning Support in Annecy for 2018 Olympic Bid

A recent OpinionWay poll commissioned by ODS radio in Annecy reveals that only 49% of those asked support the French city’s bid for the Olympic Winter Games.

The question (translated from the original French) “Regarding the Annecy 2018 Olympic bid, would you say you are very favorable, somewhat favorable, unfavorable or very unfavorable of the bid?” was posed to 505 residents over the age of 18.

17% said they were very favourable; 32% were favourable, 24% were unfavourable and 26% were very unfavourable. This survey was conducted only within Annecy – ODS reports that other polls show that there is 80% support of the the bid across France.

Last week Annecy 2018 released a similar poll showing 67% local support in Annecy, an increase from previous polls including an International Olympic Committee (IOC) sponsored poll.

The survey results make no mention of an expected margin of error which could be significant with a sample size this low.

Annecy is competing with Munich and PyeongChang, Korea to host the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. A decision will be made by the IOC July 6 in Durban, South Africa.
