Annecy 2018 is launching a program to involve and mobilize a million youngsters from the surrounding area as part of its bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
According to a press release the bid committee, supported by the Rhone-Alpes Region, and its advisory body the Regional Economic and Social Committee (CESR), representative of the civil society of the territory, are working together to directly involve a million youngsters in building up its bid.
Edgar Grospiron, CEO of Annecy 2018, said it will enable Annecy 2018 “to create a long-term dynamic involving partnerships and coordinated efforts from everyone involved – institutions, political bodies and associations, as well as figures from the economic and social sphere – and launch a five point education plan around Olympic values – openness to culture and worldwide exchanges, awareness of sustainable development, practicing sport and mountains accessibility, awareness of handicaps, and (a) co-creation network with young people”.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will announce the 2018 host city on July 6, 2011, during the 123rd Session of the IOC in Durban, South Africa. Annecy is competing for the Games against PyeongChang and Munich.
