The Associated Press reports that Charles Beigbeder, head of Annecy 2018, said Tuesday that he’s not worried by a poll that says half of the residents of Annecy are opposed to the city’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
A survey by the Opinion Way Institute for local radio in Annecy showed that 50 per cent of 505 respondents are against the Olympics, including 26 per cent who are “very unfavourable”.
Beigbeder said, “right now I’m focusing on the international side of the bid and IOC members. Once we will be awarded the Games, we will have plenty of time to work with (Annecy citizens) and to take into account their legitimate concerns”.
Meanwhile, although it was not clear whether French President Nicolas Sarkozy would attend next month’s International Olympic Committee (IOC) session in Durban when the host city for the 2018 Games will be selected, The Associated Press reports that South Korea President Lee Myung-bak and German President Christian Wulff will be there to support their respective bids, PyeongChang and Munich.
