The Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games ended Sunday and according to Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), it “exceeded all expectations and laid solid foundations for future Youth Olympic Games”, adding “we owe a debt of gratitude to the organizers and the many volunteers”.

About 100,000 spectators reportedly attended the Games, with TV channels from 70 countries showing daily highlights. There were no fewer than 900 media representatives producing more than 11,000 articles about the Games, and the official Innsbruck 2012 website was accessed 4.7 million times.

Richard Rubatscher, chairman of the Innsbruck 2012 Supervisory Board said, “we wanted to be a good, friendly host”.

Peter Bayer, Chief Executive Officer of the organizing committee added, “I think we have achieved that. Innsbruck, Tyrol and Austria have shown themselves at their best”.
