Buenos Aires, Argentina – The International Committee (IOC) members have cast their ballots for their choice to host the 2020 Olympic Games and Madrid, with the least number of votes after a run-off, has been eliminated.
Madrid and Istanbul had tied for second behind Tokyo so an extra ballot was held to determine which city would make the final ballot. Istanbul won that ballot.
A final ballot will decide whether Tokyo or Istanbul will win the right to host the Games. The final announcement of the winner will be at 5:00pm local time.
The election is being held during the IOC’s 125th Session at the Buenos Aires Hilton Hotel.
