Chicago 2016 Bid May Not Be Disciplined For Violating Rules

The Chicago Tribune reports that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) may not discipline Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games following published reports that Patrick Ryan, chairman of Chicago 2016, met with IOC member Sheikh Ahmad Al-Sabah of Kuwait during Ryan’s recent trip to the Middle East.

The newspaper reports that according to Article 11 of the IOC’s rules of conduct, officials representing bid cities are prohibited from visiting IOC members.

The IOC has asked Chicago 2016 officials for more information. IOC spokesperson Emmanuelle Moreau said, “we have learned about this story from media reports. The IOC has processes in place to handle any potential issue, if and when it is deemed appropriate”.
