The Beijing municipal government announced Thursday it is holding a forum on April 18 on the construction and operation of Olympic stadiums. The forum is also a platform to promote the Olympic economy.
Liu Zhi, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Committee said, “in 2005 Olympic stadiums in Beijing will enter the all-round construction stage”. He said the forum is being held to establish a platform between stadium construction units, equipment supplier and operation service providers”.
Beijing 2008 is working on a preliminary budget of about $1.6 billion. There will be additional major expenditures in environmental protecting, in improving highway and railway links, and in the construction of Olympic venues. The total outlay for the Olympics is estimated at $37 billion, reports the People’s Daily.
