Paris 2024 Showcase Hosting Capability With Formula E Race; Delegation Visits Marseille

Paris 2024 has reaffirmed its capabilities and experience in hosting international sports event following the Visa Paris ePris Sunday, which attracted more than 15,000 fans for round seven of the FIA governed Formula E series.

The circuit was located at the Hotel national des Invalides, the proposed Archery venue for the 2024 Games.  The race was also near several other proposed 2024 venues, including the Eiffel Tower which will overlook the beach volleyball competition, and the River Seine, which will become a “river trail” of live sites, sports demonstrations and sponsor activation zones.

“Formula E is the world`s first fully-electric racing series and its environmentally friendly values mirror Paris 2024`s commitment to sustainability and green initiatives,” Paris 2024 CEO Etienne Thobois explained.

Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris said, “hosting this race in the heart of Paris is a way to put the city at the service of sport and we are delighted to offer a stunning setting for this incredible event.  It is also a way to take action to tackle climate change and reduce carbon emissions.  Today we celebrate the forward-thinking innovation of these amazing high-performance electric cars and we underline our commitment to move forward towards a more sustainable way of life for future generations”.

Paris 2024 CEO Etienne Thobois added, “With its amazing backdrops and iconic city centre landmarks, Paris` unique blend of traditional and modern presents a fantastic setting for incredible live sporting experiences and broadcast opportunities.  The city`s reputation as a hub for international sport provides the ideal platform to extend the core values of the Olympic Movement to a new generation of fans around the world, inspiring more young people to follow and participate in sport.

On Monday a Paris 2024 delegation led by Hidalgo made an official visit to Marseille where they held a Board Meeting at the Palais du Pharo and visited the proposed venue for Olympic Sailing at the picturesque Marina Marseille.

Marseille is also Home to the newly renovated, state-of-the-art Stade Velodrome, a proposed venue for Olympic Football in 2024 that is set to host six matches during the Euro 2016 Football Championships.

The Mayor of Marseille, Jean-Claude Gaudin said “as the two largest cities in France, Paris and Marseille have a strong and unique bond and we’re delighted to play an important part in the bid by providing two incredible venues in Marina Marseille and the Stade Velodrome. The people of Marseille stand together with the whole of France in support of the Paris 2024 bid.”

Paris is up against rivals Budapest, Los Angeles and Rome in a contest to host the Olympic Games in 2024.  A winner will be elected by the International Olympic Committee September 2017.
