Los Angeles’ bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games has announced the appointment of former Los Angeles County chief deputy Chief Executive Officer Brence Culp as Executive Director of Sustainability and Legacy. Culp has been instrumental in LA 2024’s selection of UCLA as its proposed Olympic and Paralympic Village, which LA 2024 says it further reduces L.A.’s costs and risk of hosting the Games, aligning closely with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Olympic Agenda 2020 reforms that encourage cities to host sustainable and fiscally responsible Games.
Culp’s experience includes working with the City Council’s Budget and Finance Committee and as Chief Financial Officer for Los Angeles’ Redevelopment Agency. Prior to working with local government, she practiced corporate tax and real estate law.
Culp also works closely with City of Los Angeles officials in their review of LA 2024’s plans and budget and said Thursday “it’s an honour to join the LA 2024 team, and I am delighted to put my experience to work for the committee.”
“The team is working hard to build a sustainable and environmentally forward-thinking plan that fits into the long-term goals of the city, the country, and the Olympic Movement, while providing athletes with an outstanding Olympic experience. I welcome the opportunity to create a new Games for a new era that serves all members of the Olympic Family, as well as all Angelenos.”
LA 2024 is collaborating with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, as well as other environmental and community organizations, to develop its sustainability strategy.
Culp is joined at LA 2024 by Allen Vo and Cristina Lucas. Vo joins LA 2024 from the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI), where he supported the development of the new LA Kretz Innovation Campus, and Lucas joins LA 2024 from the Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG), a professional learning platform where she was responsible for growing the company’s west coast business by supporting the team’s enterprise software and Internet services clients.
The team is also supported by Olympic and Paralympic Games veteran and strategic adviser in the area of sustainability, Ann Duffy, who served as Vancouver 2010’s Chief Sustainability Officer, and Alastair MacGregor, a High Performance Building innovator at architectural and engineering design firm AECOM

Los Angeles is competing with Budapest and Paris to host the 2024 Games. The IOC will select a host city September 13 in Lima, Peru.
