Representatives of Madrid 2020, including Secretary General of the Turkish NOC Nese Gundogan, and Istanbul 2020 International Relations Director Ayda Uluc, attended the 8th IOC World Conference on Sport, Education and Culture in Amsterdam, along with more than 500 delegates from 110 countries.
Madrid 2020 officials said they gained invaluable insight about the delivery of essential sports infrastructure and Olympic education programs that will help increase participation among Turkey’s young and dynamic population.
Nese Gundogan said, “Turkey has the youngest and fastest growing population in Europe, producing 700,000 university graduates a year. Forty-three per cent of the country’s population is under 25. Istanbul would be an incredible stage to host the Olympic Games, leaving a lasting legacy of innovation and education programs that will create a new generation of athletes, entrepreneurs and leaders in sport, from Turkey and around the world”.
