The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Bid Committee Friday announced the release of the new branded online browser game, Paris 2024 Run.
Developed by France’s Vivendi subsidiary Gameloft, a Paris 2024 partner, the game simulates a run through Paris streets and, according to the announcement “gives users the ability to instruct their chosen character to run, dodge and jump through Paris, with the backdrop featuring celebration areas, iconic Parisian landscapes and competition venues, including the Palace de Versailles, the Eiffel Tower, the Stade de France and the River Seine.”
Players can choose to be represented on screen by either double Olympic Champion Teddy Riner or three-time Paralympic champion Marie-Amélie Le Fur, both whom are co-chairs of Paris 2024’s Athletes Committee.
In the game Riner, a judoka, has more stamina and power, while Le Fur offers more speed – a nod to their real athletic attributes.
The purpose of the game, according to Paris 2024, is to “showcase the Paris Olympic and Paralympic vision through a playful, virtual concept where users can immerse themselves in the heart of the Paris 2024 Games plan.”
The game is now available free-of-charge at run.paris2024.org.
Paris 2024 Bid Committee co-Chair Tony Estanguet, said “while we are fully engaged in our international promotion phase, we are also actively working alongside our partners. Vivendi is a major supporter of the Paris 2024 Bid and the game, created by their subsidiary Gameloft, allows us to share our vision with a wide global audience.
“Through this fun game, developed to include our top athletes Teddy Riner and Marie-Amélie Le Fur, we will be giving the public the opportunity to discover and really get a sense of our spectacular Parisian concept.”
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission team will have the opportunity to view the Paris 2024 venues in the real world beginning May 14 when they visit the city for three days. That follows a similar visit to bid rival Los Angeles starting Wednesday.
The IOC will elect the 2024 host city September 13 in Lima, Peru.
