Peru’s government said it will support a bid from Lima to host the 2015 Pan American Games. President of the Peruvian Institute for Sports, Arturo Woodman, said that it would be a great achievement if Peru were chosen to host the Pan American Games, stating that the government’s approval has been fundamental in bidding to host the games.
According to a Peruvian website Woodman said, “the goal is to get the 2015 Pan American Games, but if for one reason or another that objective is not reached, we will try and host the following games in 2019.
He added it had been a long time since Peru had had a president that worried about the country’s athletes and sport. He said President Alan Garcia was genuinely interested in improving infrastructure as well as the quality of Peru’s athletes.
Woodman said Peru would also try to bid for the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
