Push For Cricket At 2020 Olympic Games

Cricket is getting more support for inclusion in the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. Sri Lanka vice-captain Kumar Sangakkara has now joined a “chorus of support” to include cricket, reports Sky News.

Earlier this week Australian legends Steve Waugh and Adam Gilchrist spoke of their support for the idea, which reportedly has backers in India. The campaign has also attracted support from others in the cricketing world.

Sangakkara told the Times of India, “I cannot agree more wholeheartedly with Adam Gilchrist’s suggestion that the time has come for a concerted push for cricket to become an Olympic Sport. The Olympic Games would provide the perfect platform to showcase the Games to a larger audience, drawing in new fans and helping drive cricket development in emerging cricket countries”.

He added, “2020 might seem like a long way away but we need to start the process now. I don’t agree with most of the critics’ arguments and I believe their fears are misplaced. We need to embrace Twenty 20 fully”.
