BidIndex ratings for the 2012 USOC bids of San Francisco and Washington moved up sharply Friday following their submission of bid addendums to the USOC earlier in the week. The addendums included revisions to their venue plans.
San Francisco showed the largest gain of 1.54 (BidIndex 63.42) on news that they have centralized some venues that were previously located in Sacramento. Washington followed closely gaining 1.21 (BI 63.42) after they announced venue changes that include an expanded Olympic park.
The frontrunners declined slightly after the news. New York dropped 0.34 (BI 68.97) while Houston lost 0.35 (BI 63.97) after a quiet week. New York continues to lead, but the race has tightened between the remaining three bids.
BidIndex is a model that when applied to an Olympic Bid, produces a number that can be used to rate a bid relative to others – and possibly gauge it’s ultimate success. The USOC will determine the winner on November 2, 2002.
