Based on BidIndex, an already successful model for rating Olympic bids, today GamesBids.com released BidIndex USA – a mathematical model used to rate the four cities hoping to represent the United States and bid for the 2012 Olympic Summer Games.
BidIndex USA evaluates each bid based on several fundamental requirements of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It produces a numerical value that can represent the apparent quality of each bid.
Initial results show New York City as the favourite, leading with a BidIndex of 69.31. New York boasts a favourable location and climate as well as excellent venue plans, financing and world recognition.
Houston follows at 64.32, strengthened by its use of many pre-existing venues. Washington (62.48) and San Francisco (61.88) trail. They both have questionable venue plans that would require extensive travel between events.
BidIndex USA numbers will change as new information and news about the bids becomes available. The USOC is expected to elect its 2012 candidate city on November 3, 2002.
