Sports Summit Highlights Istanbul 2020 Olympic Bid

The International Sports Summit was held in Istanbul Friday to introduce Istanbul, a candidate for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, and talk about the socio-economic contributions that would come from hosting the Olympics.

Suat Kilic, Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports, said at the meeting that Istanbul deserves to be the host of the 2020 Olympics “because it has been on this process for a long time. We had bid for four times and now on the fifth”.

He said the bid is supported by the Turkish government and parliament, adding that Istanbul has become the top five tourist destination in the world, receiving 15 million tourists every year.

The summit introduced Istanbul’s 2020 candidacy, and talked about the socio-economic contributions that would come from hosting the Games.

The International Summit is the first of its kind and will become an annual event in the near future, said an official statement.
