Straits Times report the Singapore government is understood to be considering more upgrades and changes to the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) competition venues despite the worsening economic outlook.
Some of the areas looked at for improvement include the addition of more permanent seats at YOG venues, and speeding up construction of a dedicated hockey stadium in Sengkang.
The hockey venue may now be moved to Sengkang, and the 3,000-seat Bishan Stadium set to host athletics and football, will be “spruced” up. It was supposed to get a resurfaced running track and 7,000 temporary seats, but now these seats could be made permanent. The new turf to be laid next year will be of a higher grade to allow the ball’s bounce and roll to resemble that of real grass more closely.
The improvements were not in the original plans submitted to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
