Tickets for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games have picked up, with 70 per cent of tickets sold to date. Ticket sales cover the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and the 26 sports.
Tickets for the Opening Ceremony were offered through a ballot, but some of the tickets weren’t collected are now being offered to the public.
The most popular tickets sold are those priced at S$80.
Channel News Asia reports the Youth Olympic Games Torch Relay starts Saturday involving about 2,400 torchbearers from all walks of life, from 11 years old to an 82-year-old national hockey player.
The island-wide relay will last for six days.
Meanwhile a sculpture has been made to mark the world’s first Youth Olympic Village at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University. Called “The Wind and Wings”, the sculpture was unveiled Monday by President SR Nathan.
The sculpture is made of three tons of stainless steel and takes on different shades of colour at night, according to Channel News Asia. During the day, its bubble-like formations mirror the surrounding greenery, giving an organic feel.
The sculpture took about 1,400 man-hours over 88 days.
