The Moscow Times reports that two and a half years before the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics begin, Sochi is beating the Beijing 2008 Summer Games record at deriving income from national sponsors.
The Sochi Games have reportedly taken in over $1.2 billion said Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 Chairman.
The number of partners for the 2014 Games is now 18. Eight sponsors account for almost $1 billion – the largest Rosneft is paying $180 million. MegaFon and Rostelecom account for $130 million each.
Sponsors have the right to use the Olympic symbol and the Sochi 2014 logo.
