The Youth Olympic Flame has arrived in Singapore ahead of the first Youth Olympic Games being held August 14-26.
The Flame was welcomed by Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan who said “this is the first and only time of our lifetimes that the flame will be here. And we need to take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate, to celebrate what we are as Singaporeans…what we stand for, and also to be able to open our hearts to welcome our guests from all over the world in just a couple of days’ time”,
The flame spanned five continents, making stopovers in Berlin, Germany, Dakar in Senegal, Mexico City, and Auckland New Zealand.
Singapore is planning a traditional six-day torch relay around the island starting Saturday.
The flame will light the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony on August 14 signifying the start of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games.
