Singapore 2010 – Torch Relay, IOC Visit

The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee has announced that the Youth Olympic Flame will travel to one city in each of the five continents – Berlin Germany, Dakar Senegal, Mexico City Mexico, Auckland New Zealand and Seoul Republic of Korea.

At each city the flame will travel to “iconic” sights in the city to allow as many people as possible to welcome the flame to the continent, ending with a city celebration where the residents and continent can join in the festivities to celebrate the world’s first Youth Olympic Games.

Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) of that continent will be invited to send two youth representatives to participate in a torch ceremony for each Celebration City.

The lighting of the Youth Olympic Flame will be lit in the Community Cauldron during each of the City Celebrations.

Meanwhile Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), is making his second official visit to Singapore March 22 to 25 to get an update on the city’s progress in its preparations for the Youth Olympic Games.

During the visit he will call on the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, and address the Chefs de Mission (CdM) at the opening of the CdM seminar’s plenary session on March 24.

He will also visit the Bishan Stadium where athletics will be held, as well as Marina Barrage, one of the venues for the Culture and Education Programme (CEP), and Nanyang Technological University, venue for the Youth Olympic Village.
