Munich 2018 unveiled its pioneering “Living Bid Book” Friday – the UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities – and the first instalment of the video-documentary series is set to highlight the bid committee’s commitment to hosting “history’s most inclusive Winter Games”.
The first chapter will address issues of accessibility, raising awareness of the Paralympic Movement and Munich’s Paralympic concept.
Munich 2018 says the video-documentary will complement its promise to set new standards in creating a barrier-free Games environment and to inspire the world to follow the IOC’s lead and break down barriers for people with a disability.
Bernhard Schwank, CEO of Munich 2018 said, “the Paralympic Winter Games would not only boost the status of Paralympic sports in Germany and increase opportunities for those with a disability, but it will also benefit the whole of society in Germany with improved accessibility. Since the very start of the bidding process Munich 2018 has embraced the opportunities offered by the chance to host the Paralympic Winter Games. Whilst promoting values of Friendship, Respect and Excellence, we hope to build awareness about living with a disability and offer an equally spectacular experience for all athletes by improving infrastructure to accommodate all of society”.
According to Munich 2018, Germany’s top Paralympic athletes have tested some of the specially adapted facilities in Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen and emphasize the importance of the “Living Bid Book”.
