Kyodo reports the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) said Tuesday that it will appoint Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara chairman of Tokyo 2020’s bid committee while JOC President Tsunekazu Takeda will be the one in charge of overseeing bid activities for the Summer Games.
Masato Mizuno, former chairman of sports equipment makes Mizuno Corp., and a JOC vice chairman, will be the chief executive in charge of business affairs for the bid committee to be launched in October.
Six cities – Rome, Madrid, Istanbul, Baku, Doha and Tokyo are bidding for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games and must present their bid files to the IOC by February 15, 2012. The IOC will then narrow down its choices next May, and the host city will be selected at a general assembly in September 2013.
