Sochi 2014 is holding open discussions about environmental issues surrounding preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. The discussions will take place January 19 to 23 and members of the general public will be permitted to attend along with environmental organizations, government agencies and responsible officials during the fourth visit to Russia of experts from the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP).
Themes of the open discussions will include assessment and offsetting of the impact on the environment by the construction of Olympic venues in infrastructure in the area where the Games will be held.
Discussions will also be held regarding plans for regulating each of the four key areas of the Sochi 2014 Environmental Programme between 2011 and 2014 – “Games in Harmony with Nature”, “Climate Neutral Games”, “Zero Waste Games” and “Games”.
