IOC Extends Deadline For 2014 Youth Games Applications

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has extended the deadline for National Olympic Committees (NOCs) to submit applications to host the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2014 to April 1 after several NOCs requested additional time to designate the city they wish to put forward as Candidate City.

Those applications already submitted come from China, Indonesia, Mexico, Morocco, Poland and Turkey.

According to the IOC, Jakarta 2014 (Indonesia), Nanjing 2014 (China) and Poznan 2014 (Poland) have already been confirmed.

The date of the election by the IOC members and the host city announcement remains unchanged.

The submissions of the Candidature Files are due September 4, the IOC Executive Board will draw up the list of finalist cities in December of 2009, publication of the Evaluation Commission reports will be in January 2010, and the election and announcement of the host city for the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games will be February 2010 at the 122nd IOC Session in Vancouver.
