Three Cities In Running For 2014 Youth Games

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that three National Olympic Committees have confirmed they will put forward Candidate Cities to bid for the 2nd Youth Olympic Games in 2014.

The cities are Guadalajara Mexico, Nanjing China, and Poznan Poland.

According to the IOC, Candidature Files must be submitted by September 4, 2009, the IOC Executive Board is to draw up the list of finalist cities in December 2009, the publication of the Evaluation Commission reports is January, 2010, and the election and announcement of the 2014 Youth Summer Olympic Games host city will be at the 122nd IOC session in Vancouver in February 2010.

The Associated Press reports to keep costs under control, the candidates will be encouraged to hold the Games in existing stadiums and venues.

The 2014 Summer Youth Games is to take place over 12 days and there will be up to 3,500 athletes ages 14-18 competing in as many as 26 official Olympic summer sports.
