Poll Boosts Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Bid

A Traveller’s Choice 2013 poll conducted by TripAdvisor – one of the largest travel websites in the world – shows that Buenos Aires is in the top 25 destinations to visit in the world. The travel website operates in 30 countries with more than 70 million unique visitors each month and is open to all users across the globe.

Buenos Aires was also chosen as the second favourite destination within South America.

In 2012 Buenos Aires was voted the top Central and South American city in the Conde Nast Traveller Readers Choice Awards in 2012.

Buenos Aires reportedly has more than 10 million visitors a year, more than 200 theatres, over 100 tango dance schools and about 3,000 restaurants. The city also has more than 500 hotels with about 27,000 rooms and 60,000 beds.

Francisco Irarrazaval, Buenos Aires Under-Secretary of Sport and Chief Executive of Buenos Aires 2018 said, “it is fantastic news for the Buenos Aires 2018 bid to be awarded this accolade at this important stage of the campaign. In Buenos Aires and across Argentina we are very proud of our culture and our warm hospitality and it fills us with great joy that so many people from all corners of the world have enjoyed the many highlights of our city.

“Buenos Aires is a safe and welcoming place and we are truly excited about the possibility of hosting young athletes and spectators from around the world during the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

“We promise to deliver a Youth Olympic Games that reflects the culture and diversity of our city and one that embraces the true spirit of Olympism. We believe we have the facilities and the infrastructure in place to create a YOG that will enable optimal athletic performances where young people can come together in a festival of sport and cultural celebration”.
