Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Bid Gets Parliament Support

Members of several political parties in the Buenos Aires City Parliament have declared their full support of Buenos Aires’ bid for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games as they mark “100 days to go” until the International Olympic Committee (IOC) elects the host city for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

Following a presentation of Buenos Aires 2018’s bid plan, an overwhelming majority vote was secured in the city parliament and members approved the “Declaration of Endorsement” for Buenos Aires 2018’s Youth Olympic bid.

Mauricio Macri, head of government for Buenos Aires said, “the people of Buenos Aires are showing their will and declare their desire to bring the Youth Olympic Games to Buenos Aires and the city has demonstrated its firm commitment to support this wish.

“The city government has fully approved the bid and, through the bid committee, has dedicated a huge amount of time, effort and real investment to ensure the Games Plan creates the perfect environment for all athletes, their coaches and families, YOG fans, the media, members of the Olympic Family and the community at large.

“The Buenos Aires City Parliament is ready to provide full and strong support for our bid to host the 2018 YOG.”

Francisco Irarrazaval, Buenos Aires Under Secretary of Sport and Chief Executive of the Buenos Aires 2018 bid committee said, “with just 100 days to go until the IOC announces the host city for the 2018 YOG, we would like to offer our thanks to the members of the Buenos Aires Parliament for pledging their wholehearted support to our Youth Olympic Games bid. It gives us great confidence that the bid has received the parliamentary ‘Declaration of Endorsement’ and it highlights that the 2018 YOG is a priority for the city and the nation.

“We are very pleased that there is absolute commitment to our bid and it has unconditional support from all levels of government. There is a united effort to help Buenos Aires win the right to host the YOG in 2018”.
