CNN Mexico reports that Guadalajara was selected over Monterrey to represent Mexico in its bid for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
The Mexican Olympic Committee chose Guadalajara by secret ballot Thursday. Guadalajara hosted the Pan American Games in October 2011 in which more than 5,000 athletes participated.
Carlos Andrade Garin, national media director of the State Council for the Promotion Sports, said a Guadalajara bid for the Youth Olympics would be feasible as it would use the same infrastructure as in the 2011 Pan Am Games.
Andrade Garin hoped to win the 2018 Youth Olympic Games bid over its competitors since the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) called the Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Games the best in the history of the event.
During the Closing Ceremonies of the 2011 Pan American Games, Emilio Gonzalez Marquez, Governor of Jalisco, said that the next goal was to host the the Summer Olympic Games after 2020.
