The Tour de France has returned to the Savoie Mont-Blanc region promoting Annecy’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
Sunday more than 20,000 spectators cheered the arrival of the Tour de France cyclists, and hundred of teens were dressed in Olympic colours to show their support of Annecy 2018.
Tuesday, after a day of rest, the cyclists are off for a new mountain stage of 204.5 km from Morzine to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, between lake and mountains, where Annecy hopes to host the 2018 Winter Games.
Edgar Grospiron, CEO of Annecy 2018 said, “sports here are a way of life, a second nature. Land of sports and champions, we host large scale international sports events in summer and winter on a regular basis. Tour de France, Evian Golf Master, or 60 per cent of World Cup ski events organized by France. By next winter we will be ready for the international sports season with numerous World Cup Events in great venues such as Val d’lsere, Courchevel, Chamonix, La Clusaz, La Plagne and Le Grand Bornand.
“A perfect opportunity to show the entire world our expertise in the organization of major international competitions”, he said.
