Japan's New Prime Minister Asked To Attend 2016 Games Vote

The Associated Press reports incoming prime minister Yukio Hatoyama will be asked to support Tokyo’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games by attending the International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting in Copenhagen next month where the 2016 host city will be elected.

Japan’s Olympic Committee secretary general Noriyuki Ichihara said Friday, without naming Hatoyama because his appointment as prime minister will not be official until September 16, “we would like our prime minister to attend”.

Tokyo has also invited Crown Prince Naruhito to attend.
