Germany's Paralympic Success Strengthens Munich 2018

With Germany winning the most gold medals and finishing first in the overall medal table with 24 medals at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games, Munich bid officials say it strengthens their bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

Bid CEO Willy Bogner said, “Germany’s Paralympic success highlights our national commitment to the Paralympic Movement; Germany greatly values and supports all athletes with a disability”.

He added, “Munich 2018 has been presenting our Paralympic concept at German House in Whistler as well as seeking technical advice and opinions from around the Paralympic Movement. We are now confident of delivering a Paralympic Games with full venues in Munich and Bavaria and celebrations throughout Germany. Everyone will be included and I can assure the world a spectacular and friendly Munich Winter Games in 2018”.

Following the Closing Ceremony in Vancouver Sunday Bogner said, “on behalf of all at Munich 2018, I would like to congratulate VANOC and the International Paralympic Committee for an excellent Games. Just as important as our medal successes is that we made a lot of new friends here. I am confident that this journey of friendship will continue in 2018 when the world would experience traditional Bavarian hospitality and a passion for winter sport”.
