The Yonhap News Agency reports the South Korean government approved Saturday PyeongChang’s bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. The government has promised financial support for PyeongChang’s 2018 bid.
PyeongChang was named South Korea’s candidate by the nations Olympic Committee in April.
PyeongChang is establishing a bid committee in July and will submit an official application for the city’s bid to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) by October, said city hall officials.
PyeongChang lost two Winter Games bids – to Vancouver for 2010, and to Sochi for 2014.
The IOC is announcing the 2018 host city in 2011 in Durban, South Africa.
