Bjorge Stensbol, former head of 2018 Winter Olympic Games bid committee resigned from his position last month because of internal differences, and now dpa reports that Olympic cross-country ski champion Vegard Ulvang said Tuesday he won’t head the bid committee saying “I do not have the necessary qualifications or the qualities”, and he had family concerns.
Ulvang said it was necessary to find someone who could promote the bid and act as a unifying factor.
According to dap, Tromso still needs to secure a state guarantee worth billions of kroner to meet the requirements of the International Olympic Committee.
The IOC will elect the host city for the 2018 Winter Games in 2011.
