Representatives of the three cities bidding to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games – Munich, Annecy and PyeongChang – will be attending the General Assembly and thirtieth anniversary of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) this week in Lome, Togo.
Charles Beigbeder, President of Annecy 2018, will be accompanied by Jean-Pierre Vidal, bid Vice President, and Denis Masseglia, President of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee.
Annecy 2018 has 20 minutes Tuesday to present ANOCA representatives with its vision of an “authentic” Games in the heart of the mountains designed by athletes.
On Wednesday Beigbeder and Vidal will visit Lome’s French lycee to promote Annecy’s educational program, and take part in a meeting between athletes and pupils.
Beigbeder called the visit the last lap “of our international tour promoting our bid before 6th July and the verdict in Durban”. He added, “this is a bid we believe we can and the team will be doing all they can to show the IOC Annecy would be the best and most nurturing home possible for the Winter Games in 2018”.
A top-level Munich 2018 delegation, led by Chair Katarina Witt, Thomas Bach, President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation, and Bernhard Schwank, CEO, left Sunday with a clear mission to communicate Munich’s 2018’s vision for developing athletes, coaches and sports bodies all over the world.
Witt said, “it is great to have the opportunity to share Munch 2018’s vision with the Olympic family this week, especially as I’m sure many of the people here may already have experienced the benefits of the DOSB’s outreach program. We will offer opportunities to athletes and coaches from every sport and every nation; Munich 2018 is committed to using our excellent resources to help strengthen the Olympic Movement. The DOSB has been running a groundbreaking NOC outreach program for 50 years. A total of 1,300 projects spanning five continents have touched the lives of over 100,000 athletes”.
