The Alpensia Resort Complex in PyeongChang, a Candidate City for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, is now fully open. PyeongChang has invested 1.4 billion USD in the construction of the resort – a tourist and recreation complex that includes hotels, private residential property, winter sports venues, a golf club, a water park, and convention and concert centres.
The Alpensia Resort is a key component of PyeongChang 2018’s bid and would be the location of the Olympic Village and several competition venues.
The Alpensia Resort ski jumping stadium would also be used as the venue for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies if PyeongChang is selected 2018 host city.
Meanwhile Munich 2018 bid committee CEO Willy Bogner, and the CEO of the Munich Olympic Park, Ralph Huber, announced their new partnership Thursday – the translucent roof of Munich’s Olympic Stadium which towers high above the city.
The Olympic Park was officially named a National Supplier to Munich’s 2018 bid. Built for the 1972 Olympic Games, the Olympic Park still hosts more than 300 community sport and cultural events every year, said a media release. The latest innovation is a guided tour of the Olympic Stadium’s roof canopy.
Bogner said, “Munich’s bid to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games is founded on the close collaboration between the bid committee and Munich’s Olympic Park. This is already regarded as a sporting and cultural focal point for Munich and Bavaria, and it is therefore a perfect partner for our bid. We will be holding lots of events together over the coming months, and we are looking forward to a long and successful partnership”.
