The remaining two candidates vying to host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games have until this Wednesday, January 7, to deliver their three-volume sets of detailed plans to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne. Both Beijing and Almaty are expected to deliver the documents in time for the deadline.
The three volumes written in English and French can be comprised of a maximum of 360 pages full of details, colourful maps and photographs – all to the exacting specifications that the IOC has outlined in its Candidature Procedure.
In addition to the paper books, bid committees are required to deliver 80 USB keys containing digital versions of the files with the tables in spreadsheet format. In the past, electronic versions were delivered on CD ROM.
Officials from Beijing have already announced plans to arrive in Lausanne Tuesday with a delegation led by Liu Peng, Chairman of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC), and Wang Anshun, Chairman of the Beijing 2022 Bid Committee.
The bid cities are permitted, but not required to, release their bid books to the media and the public starting January 8, 2015.
The bids are required to pay a (USD) $500,000 fee by January 31 in order to hold their spot in the campaign. The IOC Evaluation Commission is then expected to visit each city for a site evaluation in February or March of this year.
The final election will be held July 31, 2015 at the IOC’s all members session in Kuala Lumpur.
