WTVO Fox reports a new group is forming to protest Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
The group called No Games Chicago is planning to launch on Saturday with a public forum and hearing at the University of Illinois in Chicago.
According to WTVO, the group’s organizers say the Chicago 2016 bid committee is an unelected and unaccountable body which has not allowed for public hearings or civic discussion.
The group also says recent news from London 2012 and Vancouver 2010 has confirmed many taxpayers’ worst fears about the Olympics.
Bob Quellos, founding member of No Games Chicago, says the Olympics are increasingly associated with housing displacement, cost overruns and civil rights abuses.
