Rusty Goepel has been named chairman of the board of directors of the organizing committee for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. He replaces the late Jack Poole who died of cancer on October 23. Goepel was a member of the executive committee of the 2010 Bid Corporation and was nominated to the board by the British Colombia government.
In an update by the Vancouver 2010 Board of Directors it was announced that at least 750 people with accommodation in the Sea to Sky region are needed as volunteers. Volunteer positions at Whistler-area venues include drivers, reservation assistants, technology positions for IT and helpdesk specialists, press and photo assistants, and photo runners. On Saturday and Sunday the Vancouver 2010 website had more than 266,000 unique visitors when the third and final phase of ticket sale opened to the Canadian public. Tickets are still available for 11 ice hockey games, 10 curling matches and seven Vancouver Victory Ceremonies.
Vancouver 2010 opened its Main Ticket Centre in downtown Vancouver Thursday at Robson Square in the University of British Columbia bookstore. Customers can purchase sport and ceremonies tickets printed on thermal stock (not souvenir ticket designs) on-the-spot at this location.
