Chicago 2016 has named Martin Nesbitt, national treasurer of U.S. President Obama’s election campaign, to its 13-member board of directors.
Nesbitt is replacing Valerie Jarrett, former CEO of real estate developer Habitat Co., who is now an adviser to the President.
Patrick Ryan, CEO of Chicago 2016 said in a statement, “Marty is a welcome addition to our team and I look forward to working with him as we move into the final stages of the bid process”.
Crain’s reports President Obama is seen as potentially playing a crucial role in Chicago’s 2016 bid and is widely expected to help sell the city to International Olympic Committee (IOC) members who will vote for a 2016 host city Oct. 2 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
President Obama reportedly hasn’t said whether he’ll be there to address the IOC.
