The 14th Triathlon National Championships of Japan took place at Odaiba in Tokyo Bay this past Sunday – at the site of Tokyo 2016’s Musubi Cluster. Thousands of sports fans cheered on the triathletes, some of whom competed in the Beijing Olympics.
Part of the proposed venue plan for the 2016 Olympic Games bid, the Musubi Cluster is in Central Tokyo and will include the Olympic Stadium, the Olympic Village and other competition venues including triathlon and beach volleyball. The cluster is located in an overlap of the two Olympic “zones” – the Heritage Zone and the Tokyo Bay Zone. Bid officials say that 95% of the venues will be within an eight-kilometre radius of this area.
