Poznan, Poland Delivers 2014 Youth Games Bid Book

The city of Poznan, Poland delivered to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne Friday its bid book for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games. It’s Poznan’s second bid for the event, and according to a press release, the bid is led by “a young, dynamic team made up of both local and international specialists”.

Poznan’s proposed focus for the Games is on developing and nurturing talent, which would be a key theme for the event. Poznan 2014 says the promotion of talent, both on and off the pitch, will be at the heart of the city’s strategy to turn the event into an “exciting” celebration of Olympism.

The bid includes a “carefully planned and innovative strategy that will actively seek the youth through the channels they commonly use and connect with them based on their different interests”.

Poznan is home to around 10 international sporting events every year. Last week the city hosted a “very successful” World Rowing Championships and in 2012 Poznan will be the host city of UEFA’s EURO 2012.

The other cities bidding for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games are Nanjing, China and Guadalajara, Mexico. The IOC will announce the 2014 host city at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games in February.
