Tokyo temporarily closed the city’s landmark highway bridge Sunday so that 5,000 people could march to promote the city’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
AFP reports the seven-kilometre walk over the Rainbow Bridge featured Japanese athletes who are promoting the 2016 bid.
Tokyo says it wants to host the “most compact and sustainable Games in history” with 95 per cent of the 34 venues located less than eight kilometres from an 80-seat main stadium to be built on a landfill site.
According to AFP about 70 per cent of the venues, 23 of which already exist, are within 10 minutes of the athletes’ village.
