Tokyo 2016 Celebrates “Ocean Day”

Tokyo 2016 celebrated a national holiday, “Ocean Day”, with what it calls a “spectacular” paper lantern display in Odaiba, Tokyo, the venue for the triathlon and beach volleyball Games should Tokyo host the 2016 Summer Games.

Paper lanterns created a “glorious” reproduction of the Musubi Log, a ceremonial Japanese knot symbolizing Tokyo 2016’s bid, said a press release.

The Tokyo 2016 illuminations at the Ocean Day celebration included several themes, including triathlon and beach volleyball Olympic events proposed to take place along the shores of Tokyo Bay.
