Tokyo 2016 Unveils Countdown Clock

Exactly 100 days before the announcement of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games host city, Tokyo 2016 has unveiled a Countdown Clock in the heart of the city.

The clock, measuring 1.8 metres in height and 1.5 metres across, was unveiled at the Tokyo International Forum, a state-of-the-art convention centre located in the city centre, site of the proposed Tokyo 2016 venues for weightlifting.

The Countdown Clock unveiling ceremony was attended by elite Japanese athletes said a Tokyo 2016 press release. Two-time Olympic gold medallist wrestler Saori Yoshida and weightlifting Olympian Hiromi Miyaki were joined by Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) Secretary General Noriyuki Ichihara and Tokyo 2016 Chair and CEO Dr. Ichiro Kono.

Dr. Kono said at the ceremony, “the Tokyo 2016 Countdown Clock provides a visual focus for our campaign as we enter the final stage of our bid to stage the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We are setting the stage for heroes with the most compact, sustainable and financially secure Games in history, and as the clock counts down to October 2 we can feel the momentum of our unique 100-year Olympic legacy vision building relentlessly”.
