Spain’s Minister of Education Social Policy and Sport, Mercedes Cabrera, has pledged to give 100 per cent backing to Madrid’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. She said she would help in any way she can to bring the Games to Madrid, adding “Madrid’s bid is a fundamental and strategic challenge for Spanish sport and my ministry will play an active role in our collective effort to win the 2016 Olympics”.
Cabrera said of Secretary of State for Sport Jaime Lissavetzky, who was named new President of the Higher Council of Sports, “Jaime will spare no effort in helping the bid team and the entire ministry will be right behind him”.
