Madrid 2016 said in a media release that associations for six of the most popular sports in Spain have joined in pledging their support for Madrid’s 2016 Summer Olympic Games bid. A manifesto outlining their commitment was signed by representatives from football, basketball, handball, futsal, athletics and cycling.
Fran Llorente, President of the Basketball Association, said in the manifesto, “we are here to demonstrate our commitment towards sporting venues. We believe sport can unite people, allowing them to share respect for each other and can also improve their lives. These values guide the Madrid 2016 team, and we are dedicated to supporting this bid”.
Meanwhile, according to a report in Marketing Trends, the Japanese Olympic Committee is so serious about its 2016 Summer Games bid it has enlisted the support of famous anime characters Astro Boy and Pikachu, who are appearing at events and fairs promoting Tokyo’s 2016 Olympic bid.
