Madrid 2016’s sporting infrastructures and venues have received the full backing of each of the 26 international Olympic sporting federations. According to a press release, 77 per cent of the facilities needed to host the 2016 Summer Games either already in place or underway.
Madrid 2016’s Sport and Projects Director, Raul Chapado said, “the international sporting federations were very impressed with the scope of Madrid’s venues. Our facilities are in place for all 26 Olympic events, which is a major feature of the bid. All sporting professionals were also very complimentary about the high quality of our venues. They would love them to be the platform on which we stage an international sporting event and invite the world’s top athletes to compete in some of the best facilities to be found anywhere”.
Chapado added, “the backing of sporting federations is a real boost to the bid. Their support and collaboration in this project is vital. Our project’s venues are the main assets of the bid. I am very pleased they have given Madrid’s facilities such a high rating and share their excitement in developing the project to bring the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games to Spain”.
