Rio 2016 says it’s building on the momentum of its successful presentation during last week’s SportAccord conference by having key meetings in Oceania, Africa, Qatar and London. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is attending the meetings in Qatar and London.
The first meeting will be a presentation at the General Assembly of the Oceania National Committees in Queenstown New Zealand March 31. Rio 2016 Secretary General Carlos Roberto Osorio will be there to present Rio’s 2016 Games plan to a senior audience of representatives from the local Olympic Committees and will be joined by International Relations Director Mario Cilenti and Isabela Swan, Rio 2016 Ambassador and sailing bronze medallist in Beijing.
Osorio said, “our presentation this week at the General Assembly will attest to the warm welcome we received recently in Denver when we presented Rio’s vision to an audience primarily made up of representatives from International Sports Federations and leading figures in the sports industry. Our presentation on Tuesday this week will speak to the specific needs and concerns of the Presidents of the local NOCs, driving in on all the key aspects of our bid that will contribute to the success of their athletes and their organizations”.
Swan called it “a great honour to represent the Rio 2016 Ambassadors here in New Zealand. I am dedicated to bringing the Olympic and Paralympic Games to Brazil because of the tremendous benefits it will bring to Brazilian athletes and all the young people dreaming of a career in sport”.
President Lula will also participate in bilateral meetings with a selection of Middle Eastern heads of State to present Rio’s 2016 bid, while Rio 2016’s Sports Director Agberto Guimaraes will travel with a government delegation to Nairobi, Kenya to present Rio’s bid during the United Nations-HABITAT meeting.
President Lula will end the week in London with several other leading government and bid committee officials following his participation at the G20 Summit.
