On Wednesday night, International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission (EC) members will be received at a Tokyo 2020 gala to be held at Tokyo’s newly rebuilt Palace Hotel adjacent to Japan’s Imperial Palace. Reopened just last year after the previous historic building was demolished in 2009, The Palace is now the most opulent hotels in Tokyo with fine restaurants to match.
Under strict IOC evaluation rules, bid committees are able to host and entertain the visiting IOC group for only one night. In the past, the galas have includeded guests from the top levels of government, elite athletes, celebrities and royalty.
Tokyo Governor Naoki Inose said Wednesday afternoon that Her Highness The Princess Takamado will be at the reception.
During the commission’s visit to Tokyo this week, members have been staying at the Palace Hotel and all closed-door meetings have been held there.
Near the landmark Tokyo Station, the Palace Hotel restaurants feature renowned chef’s and have “lofty Michelin ambitions”, according to the hotel.
